The midfielder recently starred as a central midfielder in the win over Sunderland.
The midfielder has primarily spent his career as a winger, with his pace having been used to great effect on the wings by both Arsenal and England.
He has occasionally played as a central midfielder though, and put in an impressive performance in that position in the recent FA Cup win over Sunderland.
And Wenger has now explained the reasons why he believes that Oxlade-Chamberlain could become a top box-to-box midfielder for the Gunners in future.
“He has the attributes to play in central midfield, he has that important quality - a little surge to get out of pressure,” he told arsenal.com.
“One of the things to get out of pressure is to have a little dribble to get away from the guy who closes you down and nobody has that more than Oxlade-Chamberlain.”
“That is why he could be suited for the modern game because he has that capacity to get out of the pressure.”
Given Arsenal’s problems in central midfield this season, there is every chance he will find himself playing in that position more often in future.
With them currently short on numbers in that area following injuries to Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta, there is a chance for Oxlade-Chamberlain to prove a point in the second half of the campaign.
If he does that, there is every chance he could find himself as a surprise contender for an England spot in the summer, especially with Arsenal competing for the title this season.
