Watford boss admits Tottenham's Andros Townsend is the kind of player he wants

Could the Tottenham Hotspur winger be heading to the Hornets this month?

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores has been speaking to Reuters about Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this month after slipping down the pecking order and having to make do with under-21 football in recent months; and now Flores has indicated that Townsend is exactly the kind of player he wants at Watford.

“He has the characteristics we are looking for,” Flores told reporters. “We have players in the side who can play intelligent football but we need skill, we need velocity.

“We need to make balance with these players and he (Townsend) has the characteristics.”

The England international has featured just seven times for Tottenham’s first-team this season – and only three times in the Premier League – but he clearly wants to earn a place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad if at all possible and he has been impressing at under-21 level, scoring a brace in his latest outing against Chelsea.

Watford are currently ninth in the Premier League and are just four points below the European qualifying places so signing a player like Townsend could make all the difference in 2016 and beyond.
