Trevor Sinclair reacts on Twitter to West Ham win, mentions Rafa Benitez

Rafa Benitez 02

The former West Ham midfielder and BBC pundit is delighted with the progress of the club's current manager.

Trevor Sinclair says West Ham United are 'lucky' Rafa Benitez didn't fancy the Upton Park hotseat in the summer!

Indeed, after a 3-1 win at Bournemouth, the praise is pouring in for West Ham boss Slaven Bilic.

And not least from Sinclair, who took to Twitter after the game...

It's an interesting scenario, of course, as Benitez is a Champions League and title winner. But he's used to working with big teams, spending huge amounts of money and not necessarily promoting creative football.

Bilic was always the standout choice for West Ham. The Croat has a bond with the club, having played as a defender for them, and has a more rounded and pragmatic managerial record. It's surprising he wasn't appointed at the very beginning of the summer...

That's not to say Benitez wouldn't have the Hammers fifth in the Premier League right now. But it would have been hard to imagine. Under Bilic, it almost feels as though fifth is average for West Ham. If Dimitri Payet stays fit for the rest of the season, without getting carried away, can the east London side fight for a place in the top four?
