Southampton captain Jose Fonte has said he is not worried about the side getting drawn into a relegation battle despite an alarming run of form of one win in 10 games, which has also seen them knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend.
The Saints are currently 13th in the league table on 24 points - seven points clear of the relegation zone - and Fonte has called on the side to get back to winning ways this week with two big home games.
Fonte is quoted in the Southern Daily Echo, saying: “We need to be brave and we need to pick ourselves up because there’s another two very important games coming on.
“No, I’m not worried but, like I said, we have two games in the Premier League this week.
“We know if we get two wins at home it will be big step for us towards more security and more confidence.
“That’s what I’m focused on: two wins.”
The Saints face a Watford side that have proved to be troublesome for many sides this season and look sure of their Premier League status for next season before they come up against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
Both sides provide a big test for Ronald Koeman's side as they are both well organised but offer very different threats. Two wins would certainly ease any fears that their recent run has got them into trouble in terms of their top flight status. Not only would six points prove to be pretty valuable but they will have come through two very troublesome but different tests.
They would hope they can come out of this period of fixtures with a degree of momentum rather than nervously glancing over their shoulders.
