According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Sunderland are set to land Tonny Vilhena in the January transfer window.
Southampton had been keen on the Feyenoord winger, but Sunderland have reportedly moved ahead of Ronald Koeman’s side in the race for the youngster’s signature.
Vilhena is now expected to move to the Stadium of Light in January, with Sam Allardyce keen to add to his squad.
Sunderland have already snapped up Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich, while Dame N’Doye is also on the verge of completing a switch to Wearside.
The 21-year-old has made 10 appearances for Feyenoord this season, scoring twice, and he is regarded as one of the most promising prospects in the Eredivisie.
If Vilhena does move to Sunderland, he will be under pressure to hit the ground running, as Allardyce's men are currently fighting for their Premier League lives, and sit in 19th spot in the table.
