Report: Man United ready to reignite interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, but may consider summer move

Old Trafford 2

The 21-year-old has reportedly been on United's radar for several years.

Manchester United are considering whether to make a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail claims that the Red Devils are willing to pay £15m for the 21-year-old, who has a release clause of £19.5m, and has been on United's radar since he was a teenager.

But, even if Atleti are willing to accept United's offer, they may have a difficult task ahead in trying to tempt the Spaniard away from the Vicente Calderon, as he is happy with the La Liga side having established himself as an important member of Diego Simeone's team (via Mail).

The Mail adds that United may opt for a summer bid in the hope that should Diego Simeone depart, Niguez's desire to stay will become weaker.

Niguez would bring a versatility to Louis van Gaal's squad, as he is comfortable playing anywhere across the midfield, including in a slightly deeper holding role.

He is also very capable of scoring goals, something which will certainly appeal to those United fans that have become disillusioned with the style of play that the current side has adopted. He has five goals in all competitions for the side that currently sit top of the table.
