The former Liverpool midfielder will reportedly have a medical with the Magpies today before the deal is finalised.
The Times has now claimed that the 23-year-old central midfielder’s arrival at St. James’ Park will see Tiote leave the club.
Tiote, a 29-year-old defensive midfielder, has been on the books of Newcastle since 2010. The Ivory Coast international has struggled for good performances recently, and it seems that the Magpies are happy to let him leave if they cans secure the services of Shelvey.
The former FC Twente midfielder has featured in only 10 Premier League games for Newcastle so far this season, creating three chances in the process. Tiote has a pass accuracy of 90%, and has won 10 headers, five headers and won nine tackles.
