Paul Clement drops Derby County team selection hint ahead of Reading match

Derby County are set to host Reading later this evening at the iPro Stadium.

Paul Clement has insisted to the Derby Telegraph that Nick Blackman could make his Derby County league debut tonight.

Blackman was brought to the iPro Stadium from Reading last week, and he made his first start for his new club against Hartlepool United in the FA Cup at the weekend.

The 26-year-old seems to have impressed enough in that match to have kept his place in Derby’s squad.

The Rams are set to take on Blackman’s old club, Reading, tonight and it appears that the forward will have a chance to show his former employers exactly what they are missing.

"Assuming that Nick is happy and confident to play - and I know he is - there is no problem from my side. He is in consideration for the team," Clement said.

Blackman has been on the treatment table all week, after damaging his shoulder - but Clement says that the problem will not keep him out.

"It is not going to stop him from playing,” Clement insisted.

Blackman’s arrival at Derby has increased Clement’s options in forward positions, and the 43-year-old boss admits that some high profile players could be set to miss out this evening.

"There are going to be changes and, unfortunately, there are going to be some players who miss out on the 18," he added.

Derby are currently in second position in the Championship table, and they could close the gap on Middlesbrough to one point if they are able to win this evening.
