Michael Owen picks three Newcastle players for praise, comments on survival chances

Michael Owen says that Newcastle United will retain their Premier League status for next season.

Michael Owen has told The Chronicle that there are three assets in the current Newcastle United squad.

The former Newcastle striker believes that Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ayoze Perez are good players.

The former England international has also said that Steve McClaren’s side will not relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

“You look at the team now and there’s some assets in the team,” Owen told The Chronicle. “Moussa Sissoko is an asset, Gini Wijnaldum has done well and Ayoze Perez.

“Newcastle have been in the doldrums more in the past than they are currently. They are a Premier League club and I think they will survive.”

Newcastle are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 17 points from 20 matches.

The Magpies are two points behind 17th-placed Swansea City and are very much in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Wijnaldum has probably been the best player for Newcastle so far this season, scoring seven goals and creating 21 chances in 20 Premier League games.

Sissoko needs to be more consistent, while Perez is still developing as a player and is not very prolific.

Newcastle will return to Premier League action this evening when they take on Manchester United at St. James’ Park.
