Michael Gray's two-word response when asked whether Sunderland will stay up

Sunderland are currently four points adrift of safety in the Premier League.

Michael Gray remains convinced that Sunderland will stay in the Premier League this season, as shown by recent comments posted on Twitter.

The Black Cats are currently in 19th place in England’s top flight, and they sit four points adrift of safety.

However, Gray has seen enough from Sam Allardyce’s initial time in charge to suggest that the 61-year-old is capable of guiding the North East side up the standings.

Allardyce has sparked an improvement in Sunderland, but it has not been enough to get them out of trouble as yet.

Deficiencies still exist in the Sunderland team, and their recent run of five straight defeats was severely damaging to their chances.

Sunderland did beat Aston Villa in their most recent league outing however, and that has increased the optimism levels around the club.

The Black Cats have already strengthened in January, too, and they are expected to make further additions in the coming weeks.

Sunderland’s next match comes against fellow strugglers Swansea City on Wednesday evening, and if they are able to win that contest they could move within one point of safety.
