Liverpool have announced the signing of centre-back Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Rangers for the rest of the season, and he is available for tomorrow night's Premier League clash against Arsenal at Anfield, the club has confirmed.
The Reds have been struck down by injury in recent weeks meaning they are short of cover at the heart of their defence with Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren currently sidelined with hamstring injuries.
Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure could return to the side for tomorrow night's game with Arsenal in the Premier League while the Reds also cut short Tiago Ilori's loan deal with Aston Villa - and he made his debut for the Reds in their 2-2 draw with Exeter City in the FA Cup on Friday night.
It's clear that Jurgen Klopp feels that more defensive cover is necessary having been linked with a reunion with Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, with The Times reporting the Bundesliga side blocked that particular avenue.
Lucas Leiva has also provided cover at centre-back within games, and Klopp labelled him as one of the senior centre-backs at yesterday's pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's clash with the Gunners.
Caulker has been on loan at Southampton for the first part of the season but hasn't impressed, with his last performance for the Saints coming in the 6-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool in the League Cup in December.
The 24-year-old has made a total of eight appearances in all competitions this season during his time on the South coast.
