The defender has been one of the few bright sparks for Remi Garde's side.
The defender was signed on a free transfer from Manchester City in the summer after spending last season on loan with Serie A side Fiorentina.
He has been an regular presence in the Villans’ defence under both Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde, having featured in 15 of their 20 games so far.
And now Bacuna has hailed his performances, saying the captain has been one of their best players in what has been a disastrous season for them.
"He came here as a centre-half in the summer and I think he's done a very good job there for us too in a difficult season for the club,” he told avfc.co.uk.
"He's definitely been one of our best players this season - and a very good captain too. I have been very impressed with him all season."
Richards has certainly impressed for Villa this season, despite his side struggling at the bottom of the table.
The defender has registered more effective clearances than any other Villa defender with 91 so far, while he also tops their charts when it comes to interceptions won, with 40 to his name.
Those are impressive stats, and if there is the expected fire sale should Remi Garde’s side be relegated to the Championship this season, there is sure to be Premier League interest in his services.
