Aldridge liked the look of Sheyi Ojo and Joao Carlos Teixeira
Former Liverpool forward John Aldridge has said he wasn't surprised by the impact that Joao Carlos Teixeira and Sheyi Ojo had on the side during Friday night's 2-2 draw with Exeter City in the FA Cup.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp fielded a much-changed line-up which saw many of those lining up for Liverpool making their debuts for the club.
Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column that he thought the youngsters in the side had performed well and that Klopp's gamble paid off as the side remains in the FA Cup.
He said: "Make no mistake, that was a great result for us. When I saw the team line-up, I was sure we were going to get beaten.
"We've got some great kids coming through but it's very difficult when so many of them are thrown in at the deep end like that.
"I wasn't surprised by the difference Sheyi Ojo made when he came off the bench. Both Ojo and Joao Carlos Teixeira have real quality and now they just need to keep showing how much they want it.
"It was a massive call by Jurgen Klopp to field that team but he got away with it because we're still in the FA Cup."
Jerome Sinclair and Brad Smith both managed to get their first goals for the club but it was Ojo and Teixeira that stole the show for Aldridge.
Texieira managed to show he has a few tricks about him and created space well enough to get the Reds on the front foot, while Ojo's cameo ultimately resulted in Liverpool getting an equaliser to force the replay.
His power and pace is something that Liverpool have lacked as there is a lack of players who are comfortable with playing out wide. Injuries permitting, the duo could get another opportunity in the replay later this month.
