Georginio Wijnaldum frustrated with Newcastle United finishing

Newcastle United have not scored in any of their last four matches.

Georginio Wijnaldum has told the Chronicle that Newcastle United have had the same problem for the past four matches.

The Magpies have been beaten 1-0 in their last four outings, but Wijnaldum feels that Newcastle are creating enough chances.

The Dutch midfielder believes that it is a lack of cutting edge that is costing his side at the moment, and he has called for his teammates to become more ruthless.

“It’s been the same for the last four games,” Wijnaldum said. “We’ve played good and created chances, but haven’t taken them.

“Watford didn’t create a chance, just the chance from the bad ball that I played.

“We must make sure that we make goals from the chances we create, otherwise you will never win games.”

Newcastle have struggled to find a goalscorer all season, with none of their striking options proving to be very potent.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has shouldered much of the goalscoring responsibility this season, but he has only hit the back of the net three times.

Meanwhile, Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse have both found goals hard to come by, and Siem De Jong has not played much.

Newcastle are known to be on the lookout for a number nine in January, with Steve McClaren determined to solve the club’s striking issue.

The Magpies are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table, two points adrift of safety.
