Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Andy Townsend has shared his thoughts on Aston Villa’s situation, claiming that they will fail in the transfer market due to the lack of knowledge that sporting director Hendrik Almstadt has.
Townsend said: “Henrik Almstadt, right now, doesnt understand the demands of what an Aston Villa player requires when they are in the bottom three, or adrift at the bottom of the league. He may know his football, he may know his players, he may know how to construct a deal. But what he doesn’t know is what those players are going through right now.”
Many would suggest that Villa are already relegated, but with some smart signings and a fantastic run of form, the Midlands side could still stay up.
They need to bring in players with experience of getting out of relegation scraps, and the club should be searching for a specific make up of star to bring in this month.
However, Villa are not set up to sign these players, with Townsend claiming that sporting director Almstadt is not prepared for such a task.
He may be good at finding players and completing deals, but he has no knowledge of signing players who are suited for a relegation battle, and Villa are bound to struggle due to Almstadt’s work.
With a good management team in place, people would not be writing Villa off already. However, their current staff have shown little to suggest they are right for the club, and it would not be a surprise to see the Midlands side relegated in a few months.
