Massimo Cellino officially took over Leeds United in April 2014.

Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has revealed to The Times why Massimo Cellino took over the club.

The Italian entrepreneur officially took over Leeds back in April 2014, as reported by The Guardian.

“I remember asking the president, Mr [Massimo] Cellino, ‘Why Leeds?’ “ Evans told The Times. “He spoke about the history, tradition, size of opportunity and then he said, ‘One club, one city.’”

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs of England and regularly attract over 20,000 fans at Elland Road for their home games.

This is despite the fact that the Whites have not played in the Premier League since 2004.

Not so long ago Leeds were playing in the Champions League and were flying high up in the league table

The West Yorkshire club can make a push for the Championship playoffs this season, although they will face stiff competition.

Leeds are a massive club with huge potential, but for years they have been also-rans in the Championship.

It is very likely that this campaign the Whites will fail to end up in the playoffs and will have to start over all over again next season.
