Stuart Pearce said on the Transfer Centre show on Sky Sports News HQ on Sunday evening (January 10) that Jonjo Shelvey moving from Swansea City to Newcastle United in the January transfer window would be good for the midfielder.
“I think it would,” said the former Newcastle defender when asked whether the switch would further Shelvey’s career. “It’s a great move.”
“I think a move to Newcastle would be a fantastic move for him,” added Pearce.
The Sun reported last month that Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United all want the 23-year-old former Liverpool midfielder.
Shelvey joined Swansea from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the summer of 2013.
The England international midfielder soon established himself as a key player for the Swans, making 32 appearances in the Premier League during the 2013-14 season.
The 23-year-old scored six goals, created 45 chances, and has a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 42%.
The former Charlton Athletic man scored three goals and created 30 chances in 31 Premier League games for the Swans last season.
Shelvey is struggling at the moment, having scored one goal and created 23 chances in 16 league matches so far this campaign.
