Sam Allardyce is determined to strengthen his Sunderland defence in January.
The Black Cats have already brought in Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, but Sam Allardyce wants to strengthen his back-line even further. And the Black Cats reportedly believe Zapata could make an excellent addition, after tracking his progress at the San Siro for several months.
The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at Milan this season, and he has only played twice for the Italian giants since October.
Sunderland believe that Zapata may have become frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities and could make a swoop in the near future.
Zapata has experience at international level for Colombia, and has also represented the likes of Villarreal and Udinese during his career.
If Zapata does move to Sunderland, he looks likely to follow Dame N’Doye to Wearside, with the striker expected to complete a move to the Stadium of Light from Trabzonspor in the coming days.
