Report outlines what Steve McClaren has promised Jonjo Shelvey if he moves to Newcastle

Newcastle United are reportedly on the verge of signing Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea City.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Steve McClaren has assured Jonjo Shelvey that he will be played as a central midfielder if he is to sign for Newcastle United.

The Magpies are said to be closing in on signing Shelvey from Swansea for £10million.

Newcastle identified the England international as one of their first choice signings in January, and McClaren is very eager to bring the 23-year-old to St. James’ Park.

McClaren has already held discussions with Shelvey over a potential move, and he has set out a plan to the midfielder which should enable him to get back to his best.

Shelvey has been out of form at the Swans for the past few months, but McClaren has promised to offer him a spot in the middle of the park, where he can showcase his creativity.

Newcastle have not forged enough openings for their strikers this season, and McClaren intends for Shelvey to become his side’s main architect.

Shelvey is understood to have been impressed by Newcastle’s plan, and he is close to signing a five-year contract at St. James’ Park.
