According to a report in the Telegraph, Newcastle United are lining up a bid for Burnley striker Andre Gray.
The Magpies are keen to make additions in the January transfer window, with both Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey and Bordeaux winger Henri Saivet said to be close to completing moves to St. James’ Park in the same paper.
Saivet’s and Shelvey’s arrivals on Tyneside would increase Newcastle’s midfield options, but Steve McClaren is also keen to add a striker to his group.
Gray is thought to be their top target up front, and the Magpies could launch a bid in the near future.
Burnley are understood to be looking for big money for the 24-year-old, who only moved to Turf Moor from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
Gray has scored 15 goals in 22 Championship appearances so far this season, and he is regarded as one of the finest front men in the Football League.
If Gray does move to Newcastle he will be in competition with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse for a first team place.
