Steve McClaren is hoping that the 25-year-old can aid their survival bid.
The Star claims that the Magpies are confident of tying up a deal in time for the 25-year-old to be available for the club's home game with West Ham on Saturday, having agreed a fee with the Ligue 1 side last week.
With Newcastle currently in the relegation zone, Saivet's arrival will be a huge boost for the club. The Senegal international has been one of Bordeaux's best players this term, scoring twice in the league.
He has been used predominantly in the centre of midfield, or in a slightly deeper holding role, but can play in a variety of other positions which will make him a great addition to Steve McClaren's squad as they look to get themselves out of trouble. The United boss will be hoping that Saivet's energy is able to inspire the rest of the side to have more attacking intent as they are currently among the lowest scorers in the division.
One point from their last four Premier League games - which came from the draw with Aston Villa - has meant that the club are now 18th in the table, two points from safety, making it essential that Saivet justifies the £10m fee as quickly as possible.
