According to the Daily Mail, Southampton youngster Jake Hesketh is a transfer target for Manchester United.
The Red Devils are reportedly determined to increase the productivity of their youth system, as they are worried about the quality of the youngsters currently playing at under-18 level.
United fear that many of their youth team players are simply not cut out to make it at the top level.
Hesketh, however, is someone who United’s scouts have had their eyes on for some time, and Louis van Gaal’s side could make a bid in January.
Southampton are understood to be determined to keep hold of the 18-year-old, but he does only have 18 months left on his contract.
Hesketh has been training regularly with the Saints’ first team this season, but he is yet to make a senior appearance this term.
Southampton have increased their options in midfield, leaving the youngster forced to sit on the sidelines.
Ronald Koeman still has high hopes for the 18-year-old though, and reportedly believes he could become a key player for the south coast side in the future.
