Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins predicted on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (January 8) that Arsenal will win against Liverpool away from home in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
“For me, Arsenal play the best football in the Premier League to be perfectly honest,” said Wilkins. “I think (Mesut) Ozil this year has been an absolute revelation. I have really enjoyed watching him play. I am going to go for an away win.”
Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has predicted Wednesday’s game to end in a 1-1 draw.
“We will know more about the Gunners’ and their title aspirations after their trip to a Liverpool side who have scored just 22 goals in their 20 PL games to date,” the former England international has written on Betvictor.com.
“No Alexis Sanchez for the league leaders who will have to stand up and be counted at Anfield; a draw might suit Arsene Wenger more than Jurgen Klopp and I think both sides will have to settle for a point.”
A footnote added: “Michael’s recommendation: Game to finish in a 1-1 draw at 13/2.”
Arsenal will head into the game against Liverpool at Anfield on the back of a 3-1 victory over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Gunners are in great form at the moment and will be backed by many Premier League observers to pick up all three points at Anfield.
Mesut Ozil has been arguably Arsenal’s best player so far this season and is playing the way he did at Real Madrid.
The Germany international attacking midfielder has scored three goals and created 83 chances in 19 Premier League appearances for the North London outfit so far this season.
Liverpool, though, will be determined to pick up all three points against Gunners and will also have home advantage.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have not been playing particularly great in recent weeks, but the players will be keen on stepping up their game against Arsenal.
