London star is named Premier League's best signing as fans have their say

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Crystal Palace had players in the running and now supporters have had their say.

As we pass the halfway stage in the Premier League season we asked football fans who they thought was the best permanent signing from a selection of the top buys from last summer.

It can be no coincidence that the Gunners, Spurs, the Hammers and the Eagles are all enjoying fantastic seasons after some superb transfer business in the summer.

Each club made shrewd acquisitions and they have gone on to outshine all their Premier League rivals, establishing themselves as genuine stars of the league.

Arsenal 'keeper Petr Cech, Tottenham duo Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld, West Ham's Dimitri Payet and Palace's Yohan Cabaye were all in the running in our poll.

Fans have been voting in their numbers and it is the French star Payet who has comfortably come out on top with 36% of the vote (443 votes).

'We've got Payeeeeet'

The Hammers paid Marseille £10m for a player that has turned out to be the signing of the decade for West Ham.

The ridiculously talented Frenchman has shone from the moment he bullied Arsenal in the season opener and has weighed in with five goals so far from his 13 games and countless more assists.

With him in the side West Ham average just under three goals per game and he is being hailed the new Paolo Di Canio given his influence on the east Londoners' results.

Slaven Bilic was robbed of the mercurial talent for two months. But he is back now much to the delight of Hammers fans who have their very own new song on the terraces paying tribute to the star.

He is behind only Mesut Ozil in the playmaker charts despite sitting out the last two months.

It is a sobering thought that Payet cost West Ham £0.6m less than flop Matt Jarvis.

If Bilic's sixth placed Irons can keep him fit, they could well challenge for a Champions League spot.

Best of the rest?

Eagles midfield star and Payet's fellow Frenchman Cabaye was rated the second best signing of the Premier League season getting 21% of the vote (259).

Spurs star Alli was third with 18% (221) while his teammate Alderweireld was fourth with 15% (180).

Somewhat surprisingly former Chelsea hero Cech polled the lowest number of votes with 10% (123) despite helping the Gunners to the top of the table as they go in search of their first title in 12 years.
