Jeremain Lens has scored three goals in 16 appearances for Sunderland so far.
Lens was predicted to be one of Sunderland’s main attacking threats this season, but he has failed to live up to expectations since arriving at the Stadium of Light.
The Dutchman has fallen out of favour since Sam Allardyce’s arrival, but he started in Sunderland’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend and impressed.
Cattermole believes that the wide man needs to start performing to a higher standard, but the midfielder did praise his teammate’s performances at the Emirates Stadium.
“I am thinking of people like Jeremain Lens who came in today and did a great job,” Cattermole said.
“He is probably someone we haven’t seen enough of, but I am hoping for a big second half of the season from him and we all believe he can do that for us.
“He was much more involved today, that’s for sure. If that is the system the manager wants to play then it’s fine by me and it seemed to suit Jeremain.”
Lens has played 16 times for Sunderland in the Premier League, but many of his appearances have come as a substitute.
The 28-year-old recently spoke of his frustrations about his move to the Stadium of Light so far, sparking rumours of a potential exit in January.
However, it seems that he could now be set to receive a run of games, and he will be looking to add to the three goals he has scored for the Black Cats so far.
