Federico Fazio reportedly in advanced talks to leave Tottenham

The Tottenham Hotspur defender looks to be heading back to La Liga.

According to a report from the Mirror Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Federico Fazio is in advanced talks to return to his former club Sevilla.

The Argentine only arrived at White Hart Lane in 2014 but despite making 31 appearances in all competitions last season, Fazio has featured just once for Spurs this time round.

That sole appearance was way back in September when he put in a below-par showing against Arsenal in the Capital One Cup, and since then summer signing Kevin Wimmer has jumped ahead of him in the pecking order.

The fact that Fazio has only made Tottenham’s bench twice in the Premier League this season speaks volumes and it would be no surprise to see him move on before the end of the month.

The Mirror claims Fazio will leave Tottenham permanently if a deal can be struck, with Wimmer remaining to act as cover for first-choice centre-backs Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

At 28, Fazio will want to play as much first-team football as possible when he still has the chance, while in contrast Wimmer hopefully has many more years ahead of him to stake a claim in North London.
