It is almost exactly 12 months since he signed for Wolves from Arsenal, after a superb spell on loan in League One at MK Dons in which he netted 19 goals.
He has been prolific for Wolves since signing, so much so that he has clinched a move to the Premier League.
At Arsenal he was never afforded a proper chance, hampered by a serious injury and then loaned out. The decision to sell him for only £2 million last year was treated sceptically by fans in light of his outstanding form for MK Dons, and his form has suggested Arsene Wenger may have made a mistake.
Afobe's career has progressed with the help of regular football, which he was not getting at The Emirates, but further loan deals or could too have accomplished this.
Even a buy back clause could have been useful for Arsenal, who could yet be haunted by the striker when they come up against Bournemouth later this season.
With Danny Welbeck out injured, and Wenger electing not to sign a striker in the summer, Afobe could have hit his stride at Arsenal this past season had they loaned him to Wolves instead.
He has a lot to prove at Bournemouth in terms of showing he can play at Premier League level, but if he is as prolific, his form could be tough to take for Gunners supporters.
Here is a look at how Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter to his big money move...
Sold afobe for 2 million a year ago wenger seen Sanogo as a better player 12 months later afobe leaves wolves for 10-12m sanogo? Ajax B #AFC— Samuel Uzo. (@SamuelUzo92) January 10, 2016
A lot of fans said selling Afobe would be a mistake, now he's coming to the PL we will find out, makes me sick we sold him and kept Sanogo— Mr Marmite DT © (@DeejayDt) January 10, 2016
It wasn't even like it was guesswork to let Afobe go ahead of Akpom/Sanogo etc. He was banging it at MK Dons at the time we agreed to sell.— Idris Elneny #MANDM (@HectorBaelIerin) January 9, 2016
Il never forgive Wenger for letting Afobe go, better than most our strikers, unbelievably poor from him— Rajan Shergill (@RdoubleS93) January 10, 2016
Benik Afobe is one Wenger missed out on. I think he woulda been great with the talent we have right now around him— سيكو (@Staying_Kou) January 10, 2016
