According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham are lining up a shock swoop to sign Chelsea striker Loic Remy this month, as they continue to search for attacking reinforcements.
Spurs have lost just two games so far in the Premier League, meaning they have become dark horses for the Premier League title, with Mauricio Pochettino's men only six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
The great thing for Pochettino is that his squad doesn't need more work doing during this month's transfer window. He has a world class goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris, the meanest defence in the Premier League, a host of talented midfielders in Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, whilst competition for places out wide is also strong with Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Nacer Chadli all vying for a role in Pochettino's side.
Yet, one position sticks out like a sore thumb - striker. Spurs are once again enjoying great displays from star goalscorer Harry Kane, but it's well-publicised that Tottenham have little to no recognised depth behind the England international.
One Kane injury could derail Tottenham's title chances, and Pochettino is expected to sign a striker this month, with The Mirror reporting that Chelsea's Loic Remy is a top target.
The Frenchman, 29, has been a bit-part player for Chelsea ever since signing from West London rivals Queens Park Rangers in 2014, and he may be keen on a move away from Stamford Bridge this month in order to play a little more regularly.
It's stated that Tottenham are keen to take Remy on loan and give themselves an extra option in attack, but are concerned that Chelsea won't be willing to do business with them because of their struggles at the wrong end of the Premier League table.
Factor in the rivalry between the two clubs, and it seems unlikely that Chelsea would allow Remy to join Tottenham on loan - but many bizarre things happen in January, and Spurs will be hoping that they can secure a deal this month.
Would Remy be a good signing for Spurs?
