Carayol joined Leeds from Championship rivals Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season on Friday.
The Gambia international was drafted into the Whites’ starting lineup for Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup third-round tie against Rotherham United at Elland Road.
The 27-year-old winger made a memorable debut for Leeds, scoring the opening goal of the encounter on the stroke of half time as they won 2-0.
Evans has spoken highly of Carayol and has told the club’s official website: “The wonderful thing about Carayol is that he can play on either flank, he can play as a striker or he can play in the hole.
“You need to love him. You need to love him and I’ve kept in touch with him for a number of years.”
Evans on Carayol: "He showed what he can do. The fans were great with him and I was the first to hug him as he came off the pitch." #lufc— Leeds United (@LUFC) January 9, 2016
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road, hosts Leeds had 55% of the possession, took eight shots of which six were on target, and earned eight corners.
The West Yorkshire outfit will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Ipswich Town away from home at Portman Road in the Championship.
Leeds are 13th in the Championship table at the moment with 32 points from 25 matches, nine points behind Ipswich, who are currently sixth and occupy the final playoff spot.
