Lukaku plays with the two defenders for the Belgium national team and rates them very highly.
The 22-year-old former Chelsea striker also rates former Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen, who is now on the books of Spanish giants Barcelona.
“How high can we go? It is up to us,” Lukaku told the FourFourTwo magazine regarding Belgium’s chances of winning a major trophy. “We have the players to win trophies. Every player can be in the Belgium starting lineup.
“Look at Thomas Vermaelen at Barcelona, or Jan Vertonghen - for me, he’s the most complete centre-half in our league. He’s technically unbelievable, can run, tackle - and he has to play left-back!
“And Toby Alderweireld: he’s so clever, also one of the best centre-halves in the league (and plays at right-back for Belgium).”
Vertonghen has been on the books of Tottenham since 2012 and has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League. The 28-year-old former Ajax star can also play at left-back and is very good on the ball.
Alderweireld joined Spurs from Spanish club Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, having played on loan for Southampton last season.
The 26-year-old former Ajax defender is also versatile, and can play at centre-back, right-back or defensive midfield.
Vermaelen, also a Belgium international, joined Barcelona from Arsenal in the summer of 2014. The 30-year-old centre-back has struggled with injuries in recent years, but as he showed during his time at the Gunners, he is a brilliant defender when fit.
