The club captain started at left back for Forest.
Jamie Ward scored his first goal since arriving from Derby County in the summer after some fantastic wing play from young winger Oliver Burke - who put in yet another top performance.
It was a big game in the end for Forest.
Gary Gardner made his second debut for the club after being loaned in again from Aston Villa. Bojan Jokic also came into the game late on to make his debut. The Slovenian international joined from Villarreal this week.
There was also bad news, as Henri Lansbury was stretchered off with a serious looking ankle injury.
This came just as Chris Cohen returns. He started at left-back yesterday and put in a solid performance before coming out of the game for Eric Lichaj in the 71st minute.
The club captain has been out for over a year with a knee injury and now he is seemingly on the course to full fitness again.
With Dani Pinillos injured and Lansbury seemingly joining him it could not come at a better time.
Here is how Forest fans reacted on Twitter...
