The Newcastle United youngster did not look out of place on Saturday.
Newcastle United’s Premier League struggles extended to the FA Cup as they lost 1-0 to Watford on Saturday.
Troy Deeney scored the only goal of the game to inflict more misery on Magpies manager Steve McClaren but there were some positives to take from the visitors’ performance.
One of those was the showing of 20-year-old defender Kevin Mbabu who was making only his fifth appearance for Newcastle’s first-team.
The Swiss player had previously racked up 142 minutes in the Premier League and 44 minutes in the League Cup but this was arguably his best performance to date and spoke of much better things to come.
Such was Mbabu’s impressive outing that Newcastle fans were quick to express their displeasure when he was replaced by summer signing Florian Thauvin shortly after half-time.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Newcastle supporters thought of Mbabu’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Don't understand why Thauvin came on for Mbabu. Mbabu was finally our attacking threat down the left hand side #NUFC— Tom (@tomtoon2010) January 9, 2016
@adambellisimo Mbabu gives more going forward than Dummett, Perez should've scored for sure— Aarron Pullen (@aarronpullen) January 9, 2016
We were class for 60 mins and gave up, so frustrating. Taking Mbabu off over Dummett though is crazy— Aarron Pullen (@aarronpullen) January 9, 2016
@MichaelGallon to be fair I have been dummets biggest critic but he did ok today and mbabu as a wing back played really well cut in created— cll2209 (@cll2209) January 9, 2016
