The former Ajax man was discussing his exit from the Dutch club in 2013.
The bargain buy has thrived in North London. His free-kick ability, superb passing and relaxed style have made him a very popular figure at the club.
Eriksen chose Tottenham in 2013 after several other potential options over the previous three years with Ajax.
The Dane had been linked with a plethora of top clubs in the winters and summers prior to his August switch to Spurs but always resisted and remained with Ajax.
Speaking to De Telegraaf this weekend he explained why he did not head away from Ajax earlier:
"You have to be ready first. Physically and mentally.
"If you fail, then in England the teams just buy a new one immediately for your position. I opted for a quieter career development."
It certainly seems as though he made the right choice.
Eriksen is right to say that if he had failed early on at Spurs he would have been moved on. Just look at some of the players who arrived at the club that same summer. Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Roberto Soldado and Vlad Chiriches all arrived at Spurs in the summer of 2013, flopped, and were swiftly moved on to pastures new.
Sometimes it helps to be patient when it comes to discovering the Premier League.
