According to the latest reports in the Mirror, Preston North End have agreed a deal with Manchester United for talented midfielder Ben Pearson.
The 20-year-old has earned rave reviews during his loan spell at Barnsley and is now set to join Championship outfit Preston in a cut-price £100,000 deal.
“Manchester United’s England Under-20 midfielder Ben Pearson is joining Preston for £100,000, the report reads.
The young midfielder joined United when he was nine and subsequently came through the club’s youth teams, impressing as he earned international recognition along the way.
In order to aid his development, Pearson joined Barnsley for the latter half of last season and impressed so much that the Yorkshire side re-signed him on loan in the summer.
Capable of using either feet, the youngster likes to get on the ball and instigate attacks from deep, whist he's also known as a tough tackler too.
Preston are currently enjoying a solid season on their return to the Championship and sit comfortably in mid-table, ten points clear of the bottom three despite being one of the pre-season favourites to struggle.
Boss Simon Grayson, however, isn’t resting on his laurels as he seeks to bolster Preston’s squad and mould a young team at Deepdale full of energy and endeavour.
The report goes on to say that the former Leeds United boss has full confidence that Pearson can compete at Championship level, and on the face of it they seem set to strike a fine deal.
