Report: Liverpool interested in signing Schalke 04 outcast Sidney Sam

First Mario Gotze and now this speedster is linked with an Anfield switch.

Yesterday saw Liverpool heavily linked with an exciting move to bring Mario Gotze to the club from Bayern Munich.

The German World Cup winner played under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and is not currently a regular starter at the Bundesliga leaders.

Whilst that ambitious move is something to get excited about it looks like Liverpool are also hot on the pursuit of another German international.

Kicker is reporting that Liverpool boss Klopp is also a fan of Schalke 04 outcast Sidney Sam.

The report claims that Liverpool are keen on the player but that no contact over a deal has yet been made between the two parties.

The 27-year-old winger, who has five caps for the German national team, is well known for his electric pace but his career has suffered for the past year.

After becoming a star at Bayer Leverkusen he joined Schalke in 2014 and the move has proved disastrous. He suffered an injury in his early days at the club and, as reported by the BBC in May, was suspended by the club along with Kevin Prince Boateng and Marco Holger because of a 'mutual lack of trust' between himself and the club.

Sam is undoubtedly talented but comes with baggage. Klopp though is not afraid to try out the odd maverick and if the winger stays fit he would be an excellent addition.
