Report: Boyhood fan Steven Fletcher could sign pre-contract agreement with Celtic this month

The Scotland international is known to want a Celtic move.

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher is out of contract this summer and his future at the club looks dependent on their status next season.

The relegation threatened outfit will likely want to trim their wages for next term if they do drop to the Championship and the Scotland international is one of their highest earners.

His performances of late have not exactly been eye-catching either. He has scored just four goals this season - his last goal coming in the 6-2 defeat to Everton in November.

Now it is being reported that Fletcher may in fact be on the move in the summer - to Celtic.

The Shields Gazette has reported that Fletcher may sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic this month ahead of a free transfer in the summer when his Sunderland deal expires.

Celtic have long been linked with the striker, who is a self confessed Celtic fan.

In November 2014 he even suggested to The Telegraph that he intended to one day sign for the Parkhead club before the end of his career.

In the past a transfer fee has always been a stumbling block in any Fletcher move but now he is available for nothing Celtic might well just swoop.
