Indeed, Friday night saw the Reds draw 2-2 against Exeter, adding a further game to their already busy schedule. Some of their youngsters battled hard when 2-1 down but there were, equally, several poor performances.
Ilori was one of those to disappoint. He didn't quite reach the lows of Jose Enrique or Adam Bogdan but he did enough to convince Aston Villa supporters the club were right not to play the 22-year-old defender.
It was claimed Ilori wasn't fit enough to play for Villa and, although he started straight away after being recalled by Liverpool, it looked as though the Portuguese centre-back is indeed lacking fitness - and certainly quality.
That's not to say the Liverpool man can't enjoy a bright future at Anfield. Aston Villa fans, however, are relieved he is no longer at Villa Park, expressing their shock the Midlands outfit had to pay a fee to land the youngster on loan.
Here's a selection of how the Villa faithful reacted on Twitter, Ilori's display was definitely eye catching...
#avfc Ilori. Jesus. H. Christ. Worst defender since Utd signed that baldy French bloke. What the hell?— Colin Campbell (@AVFC4CGSC) January 8, 2016
So many #avfc fans slagged off Garde for not using Ilori. Example of fans thinking they know better than the man coaching day to day.— Andy_avfc (@Andy__avfc) January 8, 2016
Ilori subbed off. Tired at the end, fairly poor throughout. Can see why we never played him really #avfc— Elis Sandford (@Its_Elis) January 8, 2016
