The Magpies are currently in the bottom three at the halfway stage of the season, with Steve McClaren enduring a difficult first season in charge.
This weekend is an opportunity for them to put that to one side though, with the FA Cup returning and pitting them against Premier League rivals Watford.
The competition still holds a special place in British fans’ hearts, and Elliot says Newcastle fans would need a national holiday if he and his teammates were to win it this year.
"The opportunity to win silverware for Newcastle, you can't imagine what it'd be like," Elliot told BBC Newcastle.
"There'd have to be a national holiday for all Geordies.”
"For players it's a genuine opportunity, you go through your career and only about 10% of players ever win anything, especially at this level because there are only four trophies up for grabs."
While Arsenal have won the FA Cup in the last two years, there is no denying it is still a tournament for the little teams.
Nobody embodies that more than Wigan, with them having won it in 2013 despite their struggles in the league eventually seeing them relegated to the Championship.
Newcastle find themselves in a similar situation this season, and will be hope they can be equally successful at the end of the season, minus the relegation.
