Rangers legend Richard Gough has told The Scottish Sun that he has been surprised by how influential Jason Holt has been so far this season.
The Gers currently sit top of the Scottish Championship table, having lost just two of their 19 league games so far this season, giving them a three point lead over Falkirk and Hibernian at the top of the table.
Manager Mark Warburton has earned plenty of plaudits for his work with Rangers this season, and many of his summer signings have made big impacts.
Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has been gradually improving in goal, right back James Tavernier has smashed 11 goals and striker Martyn Waghorn has a stunning record, with 22 goals in just 26 games.
However, Rangers' star of the show has arguably been playmaker Holt, who joined the club from Hearts over the summer after a successful trial.
The 22-year-old has racked up nine goals from midfield this term, including two in the recent 4-2 win over Hibernian, with Rangers fans even comparing him to their very own Andres Iniesta due to his diminutive size and superb ability on the ball.
Now, Rangers legend Richard Gough has told The Scottish Sun that he would be surprised if any Warburton signing in the coming years will match the value of Holt, before raving about the midfielder, suggesting that he has been Warburton's best signing so far.
"Mark Warburton will make a lot of signings for Rangers over the coming months and years," said Gough. "But if any provide as much value as Jason Holt, Ibrox fans are in for a treat. Of all Warburton’s summer captures, the little midfielder was one of the least heralded."
"Signed from Hearts for a token £65k compensation fee, Holt slipped through the door with little fuss. Holt is like a butterfly in the way he hovers around the edge of games. But when he gets a chance...well he stings like a bee. To be honest, his influence has taken me by surprise. I knew he was a tidy player — but he’s been more effective than anyone could have imagined," he added.
Has Holt been Rangers' best signing under Warburton so far?
