Report: Sunderland linked with Borussia Dortmund front man Ciro Immobile

Sunderland are keen to strengthen their squad in January to boost their bid for survival.

According to a report in the Chronicle, Sunderland are interested in singing Ciro Immobile during the January transfer window.

The Black Cats are keen to add quality to their squad, and they are on the lookout for new signings in every department.

Sam Allardyce has prioritised making improvements to his side’s defence, and has already brought in Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich, but the 61-year-old boss also wants to bolster his forward options.

Immobile would be a high profile addition at the Stadium of Light, but his difficulties since moving to Borussia Dortmund could make the transfer possible.

Immobile is currently on loan at Sevilla, but he has slipped down the pecking order at the La Liga club - having only scored twice in eight matches.

The Italian international also could only net three times in 24 appearances for Dortmund in his first season with the German giants.

The 25-year-old has proven his quality in Serie A before though, and Sunderland would be keen to get him back to his best if he did move to Wearside.
