According to a report in the Telegraph, Stoke City are considering smashing their record transfer fee for West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino as they eye a £15 million deal.
The talented England U21 international experienced a terrific campaign last season, netting 14 Premier League goals and attracted heavy interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
A move to North London in the summer, however, failed to materialise and Berahino’s performances have been affected as a result as this season he has managed just three league goals to date.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are said to have cooled off their interest, leaving the door open for another suitor to come in and potentially strike a big-money deal.
As per the report in The Telegraph, Stoke have emerged as a possible destination and the club are reportedly weighing up a record-breaking bid for the striker.
“Mark Hughes is weighing up a January bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino in an ambitious move by Stoke City,” the report claims.
Stoke have improved immensely under Hughes, with performances on the pitch becoming much better while the club’s reputation off the pitch has reached new all-time highs.
Former Champions League winners such as Bojan Krkic and Xherdan Shaqiri have arrived from Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively, but acquiring Berahino would top the lot.
While not a renowned star yet, the talented youngster has bags of potential and if the Potters could seal a deal it would undoubtedly enhance their status as an established top Premier League side.
