According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Inter Milan are hopeful of securing a deal with Liverpool for defender Andrea Ranocchia, though Sampdoria have also made an offer.
The Italian defender has barely featured for Inter this season, making just one Serie A start which has prompted plenty of speculation over his future.
With the European Championships on the horizon, Ranocchia is said to want a move away from the club to boost his hopes of making Italy’s 23-man squad in the summer.
Reports in the BBC cited interest from Norwich City, but after a deal went flat it now appears Liverpool are his likely destination with Di Marzio’s report stating how Inter are hoping a deal can be concluded.
“Andrea Ranocchia is looking for an opportunity to play so he can increase his chances of making Italy's euro squad. Inter are hoping Liverpool closes the deal for Ranocchia,” the report states.
The Reds are in desperate need of new defenders this month after a succession of injuries have left boss Jurgen Klopp with little options at the back ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup clash.
Ranocchia is also said to be a target for Sampdoria, yet a move to Merseyside would certainly be more beneficial to the player as he will get opportunities to play between now and the summer.
The 27-year-old boasts plenty of experience and is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet, two key attributes which make him a sound transfer option for the Anfield outfit.
