Damien Da Silva has rejected the chance to sign for Sunderland this week, L’Equipe reports.
The 27-year-old centre-back has been a target of Sam Allardyce since the start of the transfer window, but after making an offer to him, the Frenchman has no intentions to leave Caen in the middle of the season.
The Ligue 1 outfit are performing exceptionally well this year, sitting in fourth place after 19 games, and Da Silva has been a key part of that. He has played all but two of their games, and losing him would be a big blow for the club.
However, Caen have been handed a boost, with Da Silva rejecting the chance to sign for the Black Cats, with them in the midst of a relegation battle.
Allardyce wants to bring in some defenders this month, with his current back-line options doing little to impress so far this season.
However, their attempts to bring defensive players in have not been overly successful so far, with Jan Kirchhoff the only arrival at the Stadium of Light.
Da Silva’s rejection comes just one day after Lamine Kone also turned down offer to sign for the Black Cats, as reported by the BBC. Despite Sunderland reaching an agreement with Lorient for his transfer, the Ivorian international rejected the contract offer put to him.
