Crystal Palace wanted to sign Nicolai Boilesen over the summer.
Crystal Palace came close to signing Nicolai Boilesen over the summer transfer window, SoccerNews reports.
The Ajax defender was keen to force a move away from the Eredvisie over the summer, given his lack of playing time with the Dutch giants. This season, things have not been going any better for him, as the 23-year-old defender has failed to make a single appearance for the club.
The Danish international is natural left-back, although he can also play at centre-back, and the Dutch media outlet claims that Palace reached an agreement with Ajax for his transfer.
They were also looking to sell him, just as much as Boilesen himself wanted to leave, and they accepted offers from both Palace and Italian side Genoa.
However, as much as Boilesen wants to leave, he failed to reach a personal agreement with either club, and no move could be finalised.
This left Boilesen wasting away the end of 2015 not playing any football, and if he cannot secure a transfer this month, his entire season will be a wasted one, with Ajax not willing to welcome him back into the first-team fold.
Given Alan Pardew could do with adding a new defender to his squad, trying to make another approach for the versatile Boilesen in the next few weeks could be a very shrewd move.
