Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (January 8) that Watford would be a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.
“Watford would be ideal because they are doing very well in the league at the moment,” said Parlour. “Plus, he wouldn’t have to move.
“He is a local lad, he knows the area very well, and Watford at the moment with players such as Troy Deeney and (Odion) Ighalo, they are going places.”
According to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are interested in signing Townsend from Tottenham in the January transfer window.
A recent report on Skysports.com claimed that West Bromwich Albion and Watford are also interested in the England international.
The report stated that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is happy to let the 24-year-old leave in the January transfer window.
Townsend has been on the books of Tottenham his entire career so far, but he has struggled for playing time this season.
The Englishman has featured in only three Premier League games so far this campaign, creating only two chances in the process.
During the 2014-15 season, Townsend scored two goals and created 13 chances in 17 league matches.
Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 36 points from 20 matches, just six points behind leaders and North London rivals Arsenal.
