Parlour said: “It will be interesting to see what happens there, because Watford have been brilliant at home this year. I know they lost to Manchester City, but they played really well in that game. You’ve got to fancy Watford for this game, because Steve McClaren will be looking over his shoulder [at relegation]. I fancy Watford to have a good cup run.”
Having secured a 2-1 win at St James’ Park in the Premier League earlier in the season, this FA Cup game comes just a few weeks prior to the home fixture in the league.
Newcastle head into the game without a win to their name since December 13, and on the back of three successive losses. Steve McClaren’s team have been enduring a poor campaign, and it would not be a surprise to see him name a weakened team in the Cup to ensure his best players are not tired for the Premier League campaign.
Watford have undoubtedly been the better of the two sides, sitting in the top half of the Premier League table after 20 games, although they also head into the tie on the back of two losses. However, they were close losses to Spurs and Manchester City, and Quique Sanchez Flores has a bit more breathing room to name a strong side without risking the Hornets’ Premier League status.
Parlour has admitted that he fancies Watford in the game, given that they are impressing this season, and it would not be a surprise to see the Hertfordshire outfit pick up another win in what has been a fantastic campaign.
