Derek Johnstone has written in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers should send Ryan Hardie and Fraser Aird out on loan in the January transfer window.
Hardie is an 18-year-old striker and has been on the books of Rangers his entire professional career so far.
Aird is 20 and plays as a midfielder, and he has also been at the Gers his entire professional career.
Rangers legend Johnstone has suggested that the Scottish Championship outfit should send the duo out on loan.
“For the younger lads, like Ryan Hardie and Fraser Aird, a loan move away from Ibrox could be just what they need,” the former Rangers star has written in The Glasgow Evening Times. “Players need games to progress and learn and both of them have found their chances limited so far this season.
“Ryan has been outstanding for the Under-20s and been on the bench for the first team a lot this season but he has only had a couple of games at that level.
“He needs to be playing regular games and I think the best thing for him would be to go out on loan for the second half of the season.
“The same could be said of Fraser as well. He played a lot of games over the last couple of campaigns but he has got very little first team football under his belt so far this term.”
Hardie and Aird are two of the most promising young players in the Scottish Championship, but they need playing time. While training with the first team will help, the youngsters need competitive football week in and week out for their development.
Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Championship table at the moment with 47 points from 19 matches. Mark Warburton’s side are three points clear of second-placed Falkirk and also have a game in hand.
