Crystal Palace are doing well in the Premier League at the moment.
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (January 2) that he finds it credible that the Crystal Palace forwards have scored just one goal all season.
The former Southampton attacking midfielder made the comment before last weekend’s game between Palace and Chelsea at Selhurst Park in London, which the Eagles lost 3-0.
“It's incredible that they are sat fifth in the table and their centre-forwards have got one goal in half a season,” said Le Tissier. “One goal from the centre-forwards and they are sat in fifth place!”
Fraizer Campbell, Dwight Gayle, Connor Wickham, Marouane Chamakh and Kwesi Appiah are the strikers at Palace at the moment, while Patrick Bamford recently returned to his parent club Chelsea after a loan spell.
There have been injuries, but it is staggering that of all the strikers only Wickham has scored in the Premier League this season.
Palace are seventh in the league table at the moment with 31 points from 20 matches. Alan Pardew’s side are just five points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final Champions League spot.
The Eagles are probably not equipped to challenge for a top-four finish, but they can certainly push for the fifth or the sixth spot.
