Aston Villa are interested in the French international goalkeeper.
This week has seen Remi Garde confirm that Aston Villa are interested in French international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
He is quoted by the Birmingham Mail as stating:
“I have interest in this player, yes, but I cannot update you more than that.”
Of course Mandanda would be a great signing for Aston Villa. He is out of contract in the summer, which helps any January pursuit, and is a top professional.
The form of Brad Guzan has been a consistent worry throughout the season and the club have been linked with a heap of goalkeeping options throughout the campaign.
However, even before Garde decided to make his interest in Mandanda so publicly declared, the Marseille stopper had made his intentions for the future abundantly clear.
He is going nowhere in January.
He addressed the Marseille fans on his official Facebook page yesterday and assured them that he would not be going to Villa or anywhere else this summer - contrary to reports:
Villa certainly need a new 'keeper but Mandanda looks a highly unlikely acquisition.
He is not going to join the club this January and, in all honesty, Villa are essentially a Championship club from next season.
Mandanda makes a bucket in France and Villa will be wanting to trim their wage budget for the new season.
Forget Mandanda, he simply is not coming to Aston Villa.
