Claudio Ranieri has told reporters at his press conference today that Leicester City wanted to sign Demarai Gray from Birmingham City from the moment that they played the Championship side in pre season.
Leicester faced Birmingham in their last friendly before the competitive season started, and Gray put in a wonderful performance.
The winger was a constant threat in the match, and he scored one of the Blues’ goals their 3-2 defeat at St. Andrews.
Ranieri admits that he didn’t know of Gray before that match, but the 19-year-old impressed him so much that he has followed him since that day.
CR: “He can play as a winger, he’s fast and has good skills. One-on-one he’s good. He’s perfect for us.” #TotLei— Leicester City (@LCFC) January 8, 2016
Gray has become Leicester’s first signing of the January transfer window, and he increased Ranieri’s attacking options.
The Foxes already have the likes of Marc Albrighton and Riyad Mahrez available to play down the wings for them, but Gray’s arrival increases the competition for places in their squad.
Gray has established a reputation as one of the most threatening players in the Championship, and he looks to have a very bright future.
The 19-year-old could make his debut for the Foxes when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on Sunday.
